Meet the Member: Kathryn A.

How did you get involved with @HOME Bible Study? I was looking for a lunchtime Bible Study, so Kathy started a small group at her house! That’s a real friend!!

What has been your favorite study and why?  And, or, if you are new, what would you most like to study? I’ve loved them all, but the book of James immediately comes to mind. It’s filled with so much practical advice about living a faith filled life! It beautifully describes the relationship between faith and works, and it guides my daily work at Pathfinders, a non-profit working to eliminate poverty in our community.

What is your “go to” Bible verse, or story from the Bible that inspires you and why? Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” As people of faith we can be joyful in all seasons! This is so encouraging to me.

What do you hope to gain through Bible Study, for how do you hope to grow in your relationship with Christ? Bible Study is the foundation for my daily practice of being in the Word. Being part of a group of likeminded women deepens my faith journey. It’s a blessing to share, pray, commiserate and celebrate with this group!

When, and how, do you make time for Bible Study in your day? My preference is the early morning because it centers my day. There are some days, however, when I find myself ending my day with my Bible Study. That’s when I often get my best sleep!

How has studying God’s Word impacted your work, social life, or family dynamic? Studying God’s Word impacts my life in every way! It’s my true North.

What has brought you joy this past week?  This year Pathfinders is celebrating 25 years of service to our community. Last week I met with our Mission Moment speaker, a former client we began serving while she was in the Tarrant County jail. What joy it was to hear her redemptive story of addiction and incarceration to freedom, faith and wellness.

What does a typical day in your life look like? My day starts with a run, followed by Bible Study, and then I’m off to Pathfinders. It’s such a privilege to do this work, and for me it’s a wonderful way to put my faith into practice every day!

What is your favorite way to spend your free time? I love to run, read, spend time with friends and family, and travel.

Favorite FTW restaurant, and what do you order? Paris on 7th is my favorite local restaurant, and white Creme de al Creme cake is my favorite dessert!

Favorite place to vacation/spend time in the summer? I love to spend time in the Colorado mountains in the summer. God’s majesty is on full display!

What qualities do you look for in a friend? Loyalty, wisdom and a great sense of humor!

Explain the organization you work for and what their mission is:

Our mission is to eliminate poverty in our community by empowering individuals to find their path to social and financial wellness. We envision a thriving community where all people have the opportunity and access to resources to achieve their potential.

We provide self-sufficiency mentoring and financial coaching to break the cycle of generational poverty and move families to economic stability. We serve single mothers, veterans, those reentering the community after incarceration and financially vulnerable families. This year we’re celebrating 25 years of service to our community.
